June012005»No violence: During their secret meeting, an influential leader ofthe Communist Party of India (Marxist), Prakash Karat, told senior NepaliMaoist leaders Baburam Bhattarai to give up violence and join the politicalmainstream, media reports says.

»Detention visits: ICRC suspends visits to army detention centres. Thesuspension comes after the Royal Nepali Army (RNA) allegedly failed tocomply fully with the terms of an agreement with the ICRC regarding whatare called 'worldwide working modalities.'

June062005»Landmine: A commuter bus, travelling with local people from the villageof Madi to nearby Narayangadh, was hit by a landmine hidden under a bridgeover the Mudhekhola in Kalyanpur VDC, Madi area of Chitwan district. Morethan 50 civilians lost their lives in the incident. An Army spokesman saidthat the type of explosive device showed the incident was definitely thework of the Maoist rebels. The rebels detonated the mine with a remotecontrol device from the top of a tree some hundred metres away. The incidentis perhaps the worst case of collateral damage sustained on the highwayin the nine-year-old 'people's war'.

»Landmine:The Asian Centre for Human Rights (ACHR) condemned the killingof at least 38 innocent civilians and injuring of 40 others in a land mineblast today in Nepal as an act of "terrorism and crimes against humanity�.ACHR also called upon the Office of the United Nations High Commissionerfor Human Rights in Nepal to conduct an inquiry into the incident and referthe report to the International Criminal Court for necessary action.
