Appeal:
The UN Secretary-General strongly
reiterated his appeal to the Government of Nepal to reciprocate the ceasefire
and to the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) to extend its unilateral ceasefire.
The
ceasefire declared by the CPN (M) expires on 2 January 2006. |

The Maoist rebels have
called off a four-month-old ceasefire and go on the offensive against government
forces. The Maoists were ready to announce a fresh ceasefire if there was
an understanding to form an interim government and draft a new constitution
to chart the future of the monarchy, the rebel leader Prachanda said. |

Police posts attacked:
Maoist rebels have attacked two policie posts
in the outskirts of Kathmandu. The attacks were staged at Thankot
police station, a key entry point into Kathmandu, and at Dadikot east of
the capital. These attacks in the Kathmandu Valley appear to be in line
with rebel threats to urbanise their insurgency. The rebels have said they
will expand their revolt to Kathmandu and other cities. |

Authorities have imposed a night curfew in Kathmandu,

CPN (Maoist) has urged everybody not to participate in the
election in anyway and not to file candidacy or participate in election

Maoists took place in Nepalgunj, Banke district. Maoists opened fire at
the police office.

Maoist bomb blast:
Maoist rebels detonated bombs in some government
offices in Jaleshwor, the headquarters of Mahottari district. A Maoists'
plan to blast the District Administration Office, District Post Office
and District Development Committee Office failed after the Royal Nepalese
Army resorted to firing. Around 200 armed rebels fled away after the incident. |
