February 2005: Swiss Agency for Development has suspended its projects in Nepal
The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), which has been working in Nepal for more than five decades, has suspended its projects. Reports quoting the SDC Country Director in Nepal, said that they had trouble with the Maoists for the last eight months, as they (insurgents) had been demanding the SDC to contribute financially or register with the outfit and added, "These go against our basic guiding principles. When we face such impossible demands, we just have to stop."

Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) targeted by Maoists
In 2001, when the emergency was declared, NGOs were targeted but all of ACAP's offices were operational until September this year. After the peace talks broke down in August 2003, the Maoists came to Ghandruk and destroyed the ACAP office, telling staff not to return. ACAP had to close all our offices in the southern belt.
