Currency Regulations
There is no restriction on the amount of foreign currency that can be brought into Nepal.

Changing Nepalese Rupees back into foreign exchange requires certificates showing proof of exchange. You are supposed to change foreign currency at banks or authorized money changers only (for example at the airport)

It is strictly prohibited to import and to export Nepalese Rupees.

Money
The local currency is the Nepalese Rupee. The major international currencies are also accepted. Many hotels and travel agencies ask to be paid in US Dollars. The Indian Rupee is also widely accepted. Most traveller cheques are accepted. Major credit cards are increasingly accepted in the main tourist centers.
Geld
Die lokale Währung ist die nepalesische Rupie. Die meisten internationalen Währungen, die bekannten Kreditkaten und die Indische Rupie werden in den meisten Touristenorten wie Kathmandu, Pokhara usw. mehrheitlich akzeptiert. Viele Hotels und Reisebüros möchten mit US-Dollars bezahlt werden.
It is very difficult to exchange foreign currency in remote areas. You need cash (small money) for example to pay tips to your porters.
Abseits der Touristenzentren ist es äusserst schwierig ausländisches Geld einzutauschen. Zum Bezahlen von alltglichen Kleinigkeiten wie Trinkgeldern usw. benötigen sie unbedingt einheimisches Kleingeld.

Royal Banknotes phased out
Nepal
Central bank of Nepal (Nepal Rastra bank) hasphased out the old banknotes with images of former kings Gyanendra and Birendra by 15 March 2011. The banknotes carrying the image of the former kings have ceased to be legal tender. The old banknotes have been replaced by newer ones.
