Dechen Wangmo scores her maiden 50 to help Bhutan beat Oman |
Wicket-keeper and batswoman Dechen Wangmo's maiden half century helped Bhutan beat Oman in the ACC women's T20 championship in Kuwait.
She made 64 runs, including seven boundaries (4s), in 41 balls.
Marking a new record in Bhutan's cricket history, Dechen's score also makes her the first Bhutanese woman to score a half century in an international tournament. |

"It was important for us to win at least one match," said captain Ugyen Dem. "Dechen's innings show positive signs of Bhutan cricket's future," said team captain Ugyen Dem, in an email interview.
It was Bhutan's last match of the league round. They will play host Kuwait for the 7th or 8th place.
Bhutan opted to bat first, after winning the toss. Captain Ugyen Dem departed in the third over with 12 runs on the scoresheet. It was the second wicket partnership between Yeshey Choden and Dechen Wangmo that made 89 runs and tore apart Oman's bowling attack.
At the end of 20 overs, Bhutan had set a target of 133 runs.
Bhutan's bowling attack proved too good for the Omanis batters, who were bundled all out for 70 (41 runs came from extras), resulting in Bhutan winning by 62 runs. Vaishali Jesrani was the only notable Omani batswoman, who scored 12 runs.
Tshering Wangmo took three wickets, while Devika, Sonam Zam, Sonam Choden and Yeshey Choden took a wicket each.
