Olympics: Sherab Zam loses game, wins heart
Bhutanese were glued to their television sets for about 10 minutes last evening, rooting for archer Sherab Zam, as she played against USA's Lorig Khatuna in the round of 64 archery competition.
As a knockout event scheduled for five sets, home girl in white shirt, marked with yellow and orange, lost in three straight sets 22 -28, 21-26, 22-26.
The knockout was played, with each contestant shooting three arrows a set.
The 64 players were paired with rank 1 playing 64, 2 with 63, 3 against 62 and so on.
28-year-old Sherab Zam was ranked 61 while 38-year -old Lorig Khatuna was ranked 4. The ranking was done at the beginning of the games with a point shoot-out amongst the girls.
With Sherab's loss, Bhutan bows out of the 2012 Olympics.Bhutan had sent two participants to participate in the games as wildcard entries.The other contestant, Kunzang Choden, took part in the 10m air rifle shooting. |
