» Threat: Fresh differences erupted between Nepal's Maoists and Prime Minister G. P. Koirala with the Maoist threatening to pull out of the ruling eight-party alliance.
» Agitation: One of the most powerful groups from the Terai plains, the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum gave the government eight days to meet its demands or face fresh agitation in the plains.
» Terai: The Terai plains has become a battleground of nearly a dozen armed groups. Over 100 people have died in the Terai violence since this year. A group called Madhes Virus Killers (MVK) is a band of former Maoist rebels, who are now fighting against their former comrades.

» 5th plenum of Maoists: The 5th plenum of CPN (M) has recently decided to launch a peaceful protes in the government, the parliament and in the streets for the establishment of republic ahead of Constituent Assembly elections.
» CA elections: CPN (M) chairmam Prachanda expressed doubts that the polls would be held on time.
» Tensions: Tensions between two rival student groups aligned to political parties erupted into violence in Kathmandu. Riot police clashed with activists Maoist-aligned All Nepal National Independent Student Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) and Young Communist League (YCL).

» CA elections: CPN (M) chairman Prachanda proposed putting off the November elections for Constituent Assembly (CA) till mid-April 2007. Party leaders stated against Prachanda's proposal. The election must be held on schedule, they said. Even Minister for Information and Communications K.B. Mahara, a member of CPN (M), said that nobody could stop the holding of the elections on the scheduled date.
» King's palaces: The Nagarjuna and Gokarna palaces in Kathmandu, Ratna palace in Pokhara, Kanti Iswari palace in Hetauda and Diyalo palace and some areas in Nagarjuna, Gokarna, Balaju, Thanksen of Nuwakot and Bharatpur of Chitwan will be nationalized soon by the government.

» Security situation: >Nepal's business community has expressed concern over the worsening security situation: industries and factories are closing down owing to constant protests, strikes, threats and extortion by former Maoist rebels and pro-Madhesi groups in the Terai region of southern Nepal.
