Dec 01 2007 » Party meeting: The top leaders of the NC, the CPN-UML, the Maoists and the CPN-Unity Centre 'Mashal' hold a meeting to discuss key issues including the implementation of the motions passed by the interim parliament and restructuring of the government.
» Young Communist League: CPN-M chief Prachanda said his party has initiated internal efforts to curb the forced donations and beatings by the Young Communist League (YCL). The party would assist the administration to prevent the increasing criminal activities of the YCL.

» Security situation: "We conclude that lack of guarantee of rule of law in the country has led to increase of such incident and that this has created a sense of insecurity among the general public. Therefore, we strongly demand from the government to guarantee's people's right to life. Along with this, we ask the concerned parties to stop the violence breaching the human rights principle in Terai being carried out by different armed groups," INSEC, Nepal's Human Rights watch dog, said in a statement.
» Elections: The European Union has joined China in urging Nepal's major parties for a poll roadmap but the Maoist guerrillas, whose opposition caused the exercise to be indefinitely postponed last month, remained defiant, saying the election was not a 'magic wand' to solve all problems.

» Critics: "Tell UNMIN to go, or criticize constructively," UNMIN's chief Ian Martin urged the people of Nepal in an interview.
» Security: Reeling under continuous bandh imposed by the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) and Nepal Sadbhavana Party (NSP) since past one week, the city of Gaur in Rautahat district went through a series of minor explosions. The local administration has rushed in extra police reinforcement to deal with the possibility of clashes and violence.
» Security: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Nepal have expressed concerns over the growing tension and continued strike in Gaur, Rautahat district, since two weeks.

» UNMIN: The government has sent a formal letter to the United Nations (UN) requesting extension of United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN).
» Madhes problem: The Madhes in the Terai region problem is more serious than the Maoist problem, Nepali Congress lawmakers said. They urged the government to take initiatives to solve the problem of the Madhesi people.
» Security: The security situation in the eight eastern Terai districts has improved significantly, government sources said. The government had deployed 'Special Task Force' (STF) teams in Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusha, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Mahottari, Bara and Parsa districts.

» Constituent assembly: Top party leaders agreed to hold the CA polls by Mid-April 2008.
» Maoist arms: The second stage of registration and verification of Maoist army combatants has been completeds.

» Agreement: The Seven-Party Alliance has reached a 23-point agreement. Many of the commitments in the new agreement have been made before: release of payments to Maoist combatants, discharge of those disqualified in verification by UNMIN, and deliberations in the special committee to consider the supervision, integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants.
A commitment was made to a federal democratic republic and the modification of the electoral system.

he corrected number of personnel registered in the first phase was 31,318.
973 of this total were assessed to be under the age of 18 on 25 May 2006.
The full total verified as members of the Maoist army is thus 19,602, comprising 15,756 men and 3,846 women.
