Kathmandu Valley: Bungamati and Khokana Villages
Kathmandu Valley The two rural villages of Bungamati and Khokana (Khokna) are situated barely 10 kilometres south from the center of Kathmandu City. The two small villages are laying at a distance of some hundreds of meters of each other.

ancient Bungamati came into existence as early in the 7th century.

The Bungamati and Khokana (Khokna) locals have remained nearly untouched by modern life. They are living the life what we call in the best sense of meaning - simply rural.

Cultural sites
In every corner of the village, you come across the hardworking and cheerful Newars who make most of farming and utilize the spare time with masonry, carpentry and other manual works. The Bungamati women community is weaving, knitting and tailoring. The Bungamati settlement is based around the temple of Bunga-dyo, which is located almost at the centre of the village. Bunga-dya is local deity who is also known as Rato Machhindranath or Aryavalokiteshwor.

Bunga-dya boasts of two temples - one in the Bungamati village and the other in Patan City. Apart from all this famous temple, one can find numerous ancient temples, monasteries, stupas, ponds and other architectures that remind you of its mediaeval culture.
