This is the cultural heartland of the kingdom. On this trek one can see a lot of temples and monasteries of the country.
Trekking: Punakha - Gasa - Laya
Itinerary: Punakha - Gasa - Laya
Day 1: Paro
Arrive Paro. You will be received by your YANA Travel Team. Lunch at the hotel. After lunch at leisure. Welcome dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Paro - Punakha
After breakfast you will drive to Punakha across the Dochula Pass. Dinner and overnight at hotel Y.T.
Day 3: Punakha- Tashithang - Damji (16km/5 h.)
The trail ascends through the heavily forested following the course of the Mo Chu. Overnight at Camp in Damji (2400m).
Day 4: Damji - Gasa (18km/5-6 hrs)
The trail continues ascending and descending through heavily forested areas and wild orchids. The camp site is near by a village at an elevation of about 2430m. Overnight at camp.
Day 5: Gasa - Chamsa ( 14km/6-7 hrs)
Trails asecends to Barila (3900m) through a deep forest of firs. Overnight at camp.
Day 6: Chamsa - Laya ( 19km/8-9 hrs)
The trail follows the Mo Chu upstream. Some more ups and downs through bamboo. Camp at Laya at an elevation of 3800m. Overnight at camp.
Day 7: Laya - Chamsa (19km/8-9 hrs)
Descent to army camp and the trail follows the Mo Chu downstream all the way to Punakha. Then the trail wanders up and down near the river as it runs fast through some big cascades in a gorge. Some more ups and downs through bamboo. Camp at Chamsa at an elevation of 3050m. Overnight at camp.
Day 8: Chamsa - Gasa (14km/6-7 hrs)
Trails asecends to Barila (3900m) through a deep forest of firs. After the pass the trail is reasonably leveled to another choeten. Depending on the time, you will explore Gasa village and the historic Gasa Dzong. The Dzong was built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel to protect the valley against the Tibetan invaders. Overnight at camp.
Day 9: Gasa - Damji (18km/5-6 hrs)
The trail continues ascending and descending through heavily forested areas and wild orchids. in this area, there are leeches so one must be careful. The camp site is near by a village at an elevation of about 2430m. Overnight at camp.
Day 10: Damji - Tashithang - Punakha
It is the last trekking day. Continue following the Mo Chu river down through the heavily forested area till you reach Tashithang at an elevation of 1620m. Your YANA Travel transport will meet you here with refreshment. You will then drive to Punakha for a relaxing night. Dinner & overnight at hotel Y.T/Meri Puensum.
Day 11: Punakha - Paro
After breakfast you will say goodbye to Punakha to go to Paro for your final night in the country. Lunch stop in Thimphu. After lunch you will resume your journey to Paro. Farewell Dinner & overnight at hotel Holiday Home.
Day 12: Paro
After breakfast you will drive to Paro International Airport for your onward destination. Your YANA Travel Team will assist you with check in formalities and bid you farewell.
