» Ceasefire: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) member Sushil Pyakurel hinted that the ceasefire between the Maoists and the government could be effected by mid-September.
» Economy strike: All Nepal Trade Union Federation (ANTUF) threatened to shut down from September 10 more than 30 industries, hotels and resorts, power plants and leading transport companies across the country if the government refrains from fulfiling their demands.

Sept 08 2004 » Bomb hurled: Suspected Maoists have set off small bombs at a tourist hotel near Thamel in Kathmandu. The bombs caused no injuries and only minor damage. The hotel was one of the businesses warned by the Maoist affiliated All Nepal Federation of Trade Unions to shut down.
» Myagdi: Maoists have abducted students and teachers from two secondary schools to involve them in basic military training.
» Dailekh: Leaders and workers of left-wing People's Front Nepal (PFN) have been injured when a group of Maoists attacked during their mass meeting in remote village. The PFN rally has been organised to protest against "regression" and the atrocities by the Maoists.

» Indian help: PM Deuba seeks help against Maoist insurgents in India. India has expressed its concern over the increasing violence in Nepal.
» Maoist threats: A total of 46 firms have stopped operations due to threats by Maoist trade unions.
» Economy: Foreign embassies, business leaders and human right groups have condemned the Maoists, saying investors would stay away hurting Nepal's economy.

» India: India opposes a purely military solution of the ongoing Maoist insurgency. » India's support: India's government will supply weaponry, e.g. mine protected vehicles.

» Bombs exploded: Suspected Maoists have hurled bombs into the building of the US Information Service. There were only a minor damage and no casualties to report.

» Ilam, Panchthar: Security has been beefed up in Ilam and Paachthar districts in view of the possible Maoist attack. Thousands of residents have gone to Jhapa and other urban places in search of safety.

» Killings in Iraq: CPN-Maoist supremo Prachanda has deeply condemned the brutal, cowardly and barbarous killing of the 12 Nepalese youths, held hostage by Islamic extremists. Prachanda's statement was issued on September 1.
» Abductions: Maoist activists have abducted over 2000 people from different parts of Dadeldhura and neighbouring districts to give them Maoist militia training.
» Closure of industries: ANFTU to lift closure of industries if its demands are addressed.
the government had announced that it would make public whereabouts of ANFTU members, who had allegedly disappeared from the government custody.
» India: India Police has arrested 7 Nepali Maoists including a central leader of the Maoist-aligned Madhise Liberation Front and an area commander of the People's Liberation Army in the Indian state of Bihar.
» Maoists' apologize: A CPN-Maoist official said the murder of a Radio Nepal reporter in Dailekh district was against the party policy and said such incidents would not be repeated. The CPN-Maoist spokesman said also that CPN-Maoist was in favour of press freedom and freedom of expression in the country.

» Taplejung, Terathum, Lamjung, Lalitpur and Parsa: The security forces have defused six bombs at different places.

» Kanchanpur : Several Maoist cadres have fled from jail after a Maoist laid bomb exploded.
